Spoke a little too soon

This little bug that I've been battling...thought last Friday I was pretty much over it.

So I went to work on Friday and ran errands, then Saturday did a bunch of cleaning and organizing, went to the gym and finished off the day with a fantastic concert: Marshall Crenshaw.

And came home with a sore throat again.

Sigh.

So my plans for Sunday...to de-Christmas the house and clean out the guest room got shelved.

I know this body so very well. If I push it when I'm feeling droopy with a sore throat I'll end up sick for weeks. Instead of doing anything productive, I planted myself on the couch with a book and a cat. No gym for me.

Then on Monday I felt OK again so I made a trip to the gym for a light walk on the treadmill and to work.

And then On Tuesday I wasn't feeling so good again. Went to work, but bagged the gym.

Then yesterday we had a snow day from work and so I stayed home. Slept and watched TV. And slept and watched TV.

And today I still have a little bit of a  sore throat, stopped up ears and I'm feeling droopy.

Sigh.

Oh, and did I mention that Chris is on Round 2 of this junk as well?

F@#$ing cold virus.

Back up and running...kinda

Getting back in the exercise saddle after a hiatus hasn't been so terrible.

I'm kinda shocked. Thought for sure that I'd be huffing and puffing and feeling dreadful when I hit the gym again. But nope. On Saturday my two treadmill miles at 3.5 mph just zipped on by. I broke a sweat, but felt like it was a pretty easy walk.

And today I did another brisk two miles on the treadmill. Even with a bit of a cold lingering from last week I felt pretty good.

Once this little cold is out of my system ( I am SO ready to not be sick anymore...coming up on a month with this crap hanging around!) I'll kick up a notch or three, but for now I'll be pleased as punch to keep knocking out a few miles each day until I'm back to full steam.

Eating is back on track.

Woohoo!!!

Even did a little healthy baking last evening when I made a batch of Roni's Banana Oatmeal Cups . Super yummy and healthy, but they taste like something I "shouldn't" be eating (banana bread..) And EASY to make. So easy.

Woohoo!!!

And that's all the news that's fit to print, Folks. Hope y'all are having a great week

WWWHHHAAAA????

So, I step on the scale today at the gym.

Expecting the worst.

I mean...seriously...with three and a half weeks of no gym, not so great eating, Christmas and New Year's Eve eating on top of all of that. I figure I'll see a 3 or 4 pound gain. At least.

And so I step on the scale and...

I weigh exactly the same as I did before the holidays.

Wwwhhhaaaa????

Is this some kind of Christmas/New Year miracle? I say as much to Chris when I get home.

"I we exactly the same as I did before the holidays! I mean..wwwhhhaaa???"

"Well," he replies, "you have been sick and not eating very much over the last few weeks."

"I know, but what I have been eating hasn't been so great!"

He shrugs.

So, it would appear that I have been given some kind of gift - perhaps a metabolism that has sped up a bit? And I'm not going to waste it by continuing to slide further into "not-so-great-eating."

I walked a brisk two miles on the treadmill to celebrate my no-gain. Chris and I are going out to our favorite Mexican restaurant with friends this evening and we've already made our plan of attack: we each get a salad and then split an order of chicken fajitas. Reasonable, yet delicious!

Life is good, folks. Woohoo!

Return from beyond

OK, so a few of you out there noticed my blogging absence these last few weeks. Thank you so much for checking in. I really appreciate it. I'm OK.

So..here are my wonderful excuses for not writing:
  • I was sick right up until Christmas.
  • And then of course there was Christmas.
  • And then there was the week between Christmas and New Year's, which in my industry is surprisingly busy.
  • And then there was some stuff happening in my personal life that kind of grabbed most of my attention.
  • And then this week I got some nasty little bug AGAIN and spent two days sleeping to try to rid myself of it before it decided to hang around for another few weeks.
Kind of lousy excuses, eh?

Oh yeah...and then there's the fact that I've pretty much been completely off-track since Christmas!!

I'm not like downing Big Mac (eeeuuuwwww) or anything, but I'm definitely not making the best choices. Pretty sure the Indian food I had for lunch today (which included Chicken Tikka Masala just loaded with cream...so delish!) doesn't exactly fit into my healthy eating plan.

Oh, yeah...and then there's the fact that I haven't weighed myself for several weeks on top of the not-so-great eating and I've kind of regressed back to that "I'm afraid to get on the scale" place that I used to inhabit for so many years,

Denial is stupid and not going to get me anywhere.

Sigh.

So, tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity to get myself back on track. To make better and healthier choices. To get on the damn scale and just get it over with. I'll weigh what I weigh and I'll deal with it like a grown up.

I mean - c'mon folks! I still have another 160 sticks of butter to lose in 2011!!!!

So I need to think about what I can do really get and keep myself motivated beyond just "I need to lose weight." As it turns out, for a number of reasons I am not going to be able to do the next 10-week fitness challenge being offered by my gym. So, this weekend I am going to have to set some fitness goals for myself to stay motivated. When I've figured them out I'll post them here on the blog.

Wish me luck tomorrow: gym, scale, getting back on track.
